Beam Mental Health offers field placement opportunities for advanced-level graduate students in social work, counseling, and related programs. Our internship program is designed for students who want to grow clinical confidence while contributing to a community-based, trauma-informed practice.
Interns at Beam are seen as future colleagues, not just students. You’ll receive close clinical supervision, direct client experience, and a welcoming culture where curiosity, collaboration, and care are central to our work.
What You Can Expect
As an intern at Beam, you’ll:
Provide individual therapy to clients (with growing complexity based on experience)
Participate in weekly one-on-one supervision with a licensed clinician
Engage in optional group consultation and peer learning
Use a HIPAA-compliant electronic health record (EHR) for notes and scheduling
Learn to integrate trauma-informed, body-based, and relational modalities
Practice documentation, treatment planning, and professional communication
Internship Structure
Placement Length: Typically two semesters
Format: Hybrid (telehealth and in-person as available)
Location: Based in Vermont with remote opportunities
Documentation: Required within 48 hours of session
Hours: Weekly commitment determined in partnership with your program
We partner with schools accredited by CSWE, CACREP, and other governing bodies. Our supervisors are experienced, fully licensed, and trained in trauma-informed and inclusive care.

We serve a broad range of clients, and interns may work with adults, youth, or couples depending on background and interest. Common areas of clinical focus include:
Complex trauma
LGBTQ+ mental health and identity work
Relationship challenges
Rural mental health access
Anxiety, depression, and life transitions
Interns receive tailored training and supervision aligned with their school requirements and personal learning goals.
